Reorder statuses on a work item

When setting up your teams' workflows, you can change the order in which statuses appear on a work item. This makes transitions more obvious for your team.

Screenshot of Jira work item, with the status dropdown selected. Statuses are (in order) Done, Draft, and In progress.

You must have the following to do the things described on this page:

Role: Site admin

Permission: Administer projects

Access your workflow

From a company-managed project:

  1. Select Settings (), then Work items.

  2. Select Workflows, then find the workflow you want to update. Select More (•••), then Edit to open a diagram of your workflow in the workflow editor.

From a team-managed project:

  1. Go to Project settings, then Work types, and select a work type.

  2. Select Edit workflow.

Reorder statuses on a work item

The order of statuses have to be set manually on each transition. For each transition:

  1. Select the transition, then select Properties.

  2. Select Add new property.

  3. In the Property key field, enter opsbar-sequence .

  4. In the Property value field, enter a number (0 or greater). This property determines the order in which each transition (and status) displays. A lower number means the transition will display higher.

  5. Select Add/Save.

  6. Select Update Workflow. (Or, in the old editor Publish draft.)
