Timeline limits in Jira

To check whether you’re in a software or business space, select More actions (•••) next to the space name in either the header or the sidebar. At the bottom of the menu that opens, your space details will be shown.
While the timeline view of your space is a useful tool for planning future work, there are limits on what it can show and requirements on how your project must be structured.
All work items need to come from one space
Commonly, teams running a company-managed space create boards with a custom JQL query to monitor work items from multiple spaces. However, the timeline view in Jira only works with work items from the backlog associated with one space. If you’re using a custom JQL filter that draws in work items from multiple boards, adjust it to only include work items from one space. Find out how to adjust your JQL filter.

The timeline shows only 2 hierarchy levels when filters are applied
When Show inline hierarchy is turned on, child work items appear indented beneath their parent work items. The timeline shows level 1 and level 0 work items only. Work items at hierarchy levels above or below these levels don’t appear in the filtered results.
When Show inline hierarchy is turned off, the timeline uses a flat layout and shows work items without their parent and subtasks.
You can’t reschedule groups of work items by a set number of days
The option to reschedule a group of work items by a set number of days is being removed to support a bulk edit toolbar that works with more fields. You can still use the toolbar to update multiple work items by changing their start and due dates, or by moving the parent timeline bar.
