Use business projects for task management
This page is for business projects
To check whether you’re in a business or software project, select More actions (•••) next to the project name in either the header or the sidebar. At the bottom of the menu that opens, your project details will be shown.
The task management project template sets you up with the most basic workflow for creating and completing work.
There are two steps in the workflow: To Do and Done.
Use this project type for...
‘Business as usual’ tasks such as preparing reports or presentations
Ad hoc tasks such as training a new team member
Small, recurring tasks such as updating time sheets or ordering supplies
Set due dates and reminders
Depending on the type of work you're doing, you may want to set due dates and reminders. The assigned person will then be automatically notified when the work item is due. If you become a watcher on the work item, you’ll be reminded as well.
See Schedule a work item.
Create subtasks
If a work item that you add is actually a group of smaller tasks, you can create subtasks and assign them to different people. The work item won’t be able to move to Done until all the subtasks are complete as well.
See Create work items and subtasks.
Task recycling
As tempting as it may be to recycle the small recurring tasks, and put them back in To Do, don't. It'll affect reporting for the project and your team won't get an accurate picture of how much they’ve completed. Instead, select More actions (•••) then Clone to create a copy of the issue. This ensures that you’re accurately recording and reporting on all work.
See Reports.
Manage activity on the board
Use the board view in business projects to track incomplete tasks, add new ones, and check what's been done so far. The board gives you a quick view of what’s overdue (if you’re using due dates) and who’s assigned to tasks so you can follow up.
See Work with boards.
Customize work items
The table below shows the specifications for default work items in a project. Business project admins can customize these defaults. For example, they can add other work types to the project, or add new fields to this work type. See Configure work items.

Issue fields | Summary, Issue Type, Reporter, Attachment, Due Date, Description, Assignee, Priority, Resolution, and Labels |
